Photo Album: Stabilizing bowing walls in Thorold, On
Caroline has a home in Thorold that has bowing walls. His is caused when there is outside soil pressure pushing against a block foundation. Caroline caught this early so Omni Basement Systems only stabilized the walls from bowing any further. If this is left on it's own, more drastic measures would have to be used. Omni installed the Carbon armor system to her walls. Carbon armor is 74" wide strips of carbon fiber that is adhered to the walls with an epoxy adhesive. Then the blocks are core filled with fiberglass infused grout.
Wall prepared
The block wall is prepared by grinding the old paint off til you have a clean pores wall to adhere to.
Holes for grout
Holes are drilled in to the 4th block up to inject infused grout to solidify the wall
Grout
Grout is injected into the wall to solidify the bottom courses of blocks
Carbon fiber is appled.
The 7" wide strips pf carbon fiber are applied to the block wall and then epoxy is applied over top.
Armor lock
The wall is now tied into the joist floor system via armor locks
