Photo Album: Support for bowing walls in Simcoe, ON

Patrick M. in Simcoe, ON had one wall that was not only leaking but had signs of bowing. This presents itself in horizontal cracking in the block mortar joints. Omni Basement Systems recommended and installed our internal patented drainage system called WaterGuard with a sump system for the water problem and Carbon Armor strapping with grout for the bowing walls. The CarbonArmor from Supportworks is 7" wide strips of Carbon Fiber that are epoxied to the block walls. Then the cavities of the blocks are filled with grout to solidify the block wall.

Dig trench

A trench in the concrete floor is opened up to expose footing and gravel bed.

Scarify walls

A scarifier is used to prepare the walls where the carbon Armor will be attached.

Holes for grout

Holes are drilled in order to squeeze in the grout in the cavities of the blocks

Carbon fiber is epoxied

7" wide strips of carbon fiber are epoxied to the wall and the cavities in the blocks are filled with grout

Re-concrete the floor

After everything is installed, we re-concrete the floor back to the original height

Armor Lock

Strips of Carbon Fiber around a metal bracket are fastened to the rim joist so the floor joist system will help support the wall from moving. This strip is also epoxied to the wall under the Carbon Armor. strip.
