Chantal was having some reno work done in her Ridgeville, On home and when they opened the walls up, they found leaking and bowing. They have 9 foot high walls and the backfill is a full 9 feet high. What that means is there is a lots of earth putting weight on the wall. The house is located on the side of the Niagara escarpment and the property is cut into the side of the hill. Omni Basement Systems recommended their patented interior drainage system along with PowerBrace from Foundation Supportworks of Omaha Nebraska. The PowerBrasces are 4" "I" beams that are fully galvanized and specially engineered brackets to use the house frame to support and hold the wall from moving. These top brackets are adjustable so that in time, the wall might be able to be straightened.
PowerBraces
6 Powerbraces are installed along one wall
Bowing walls
Walls before work is performed
Block Shear
This is when the block wall is being pushed but the bottom block is being held in place by the floor
Floor to ceiling
This wall is over 9' high and the PowerBrace goes from footing to above the wall
Engineered Bridge Bracket
When the floor joists are perpendicular to the wall, a bridge bracket is used to distribute weight across two joists and less chance of floor joists twisting from load.
Lever Bracket
When joists are parallel to the wall, a Lever bracket is used. The lever bracket includes blocking between the first 4 joists and a metal bracket to connect them together.
